Video to PNG: lossless frames from any video

PNG saves every pixel exactly as it appears, with no compression artifacts. That makes it the right choice when you capture text on a slide, a user interface in a screen recording, pixel art from a game, or a graphic that will be edited afterwards. This video to PNG converter exports lossless frames from MP4, MOV and WebM files.

When to pick PNG over JPG

File size expectations

Lossless images are larger than JPG. A Full HD frame is often 2–4 MB as PNG. Downscaling to 1280 px wide or capturing fewer frames keeps ZIP files manageable. If you later need smaller files, convert with the image compressor.

How to do it

  1. Upload the video and scrub to the target frame.
  2. The format is already set to PNG; choose original or reduced resolution.
  3. Click Capture Frame, or switch to a batch mode for many frames.
  4. Download each image or the ZIP.

Processing happens locally with the Canvas API, so your video is never sent to a server.

FAQ

Is there a version with every mode and format in one place?

Yes — see the full Video Frame Extractor, which has all four capture modes and all three formats together.

Why are my PNG files so large?

PNG is lossless, so a Full HD frame is often 2–4 MB. Lower the resolution or use JPG or WebP if size matters more than exactness.

Is PNG better than JPG for screen recordings?

Usually yes. PNG keeps text and interface edges crisp, while JPG can leave fuzzy artifacts around letters.

Does PNG add transparency to video frames?

No. Video frames have no transparency, so the PNG will be fully opaque.

Can PNG restore detail the video lost?

No. It only avoids losing more detail; the video's own compression is already in the frame.
