Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 27, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how FileTools ("we", "us"), available at filetools.you, handles information when you visit the site and use its tools. We built FileTools so that the files you work with stay on your device, and we try to collect as little personal data as possible. If you have questions, write to hello@filetools.you.

1. Your files stay on your device

Every conversion, compression and generation tool runs inside your web browser using JavaScript, the Canvas API and WebAssembly. The images, PDFs and videos you choose are read from your device by code running in the page. They are not uploaded to, stored on, or seen by any FileTools server. Closing or refreshing the tab discards them.

2. Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, our hosting and security provider (Cloudflare) and our analytics provider may process technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages requested, referring page, approximate location derived from the IP address, and the time of the request. We use this information to deliver the site, keep it secure, fix errors and understand how the site is used. We do not ask you to create an account and we do not collect names, e-mail addresses or phone numbers through the tools. If you e-mail us, we receive the address and content you choose to send.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files stored in your browser. Our analytics and advertising partners may set cookies or use similar identifiers, as described below. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the tools continue to work, although some analytics or advertising features may be affected.

4. Advertising: Google AdSense

FileTools is supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to display ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.

Ads are never given the contents of your files, which are not accessible to us or to advertisers.

5. Consent for visitors in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland

Some laws require your consent before non-essential cookies, analytics or personalized advertising are used. Once advertising is active on this site, we will use a consent management solution certified by Google to ask for your choice before personalized ads are served to visitors in these regions, and you will be able to change that choice at any time. Until then, you can control cookies through your browser settings or by using the opt-out tools listed in sections 4 and 6.

6. Analytics: Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate usage, such as which tools are popular and where visitors come from. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies and processes data such as your IP address, device and browser information and pages visited. This data does not include the contents of files you process. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.

7. Third-party services and libraries

To work, some tools load open-source libraries (for example pdf-lib, PDF.js, JSZip, ffmpeg.wasm, heic2any and qrcode) from public content delivery networks such as cdnjs, jsDelivr and unpkg. Your browser makes a normal request to those services, which may log technical data such as your IP address. Your files are not sent to them.

8. Affiliate links

Some pages may in the future contain affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Such links will be marked as affiliate or sponsored.

9. Legal bases and your rights (GDPR, UK GDPR and LGPD)

Where data protection laws such as the EU and UK GDPR or Brazil's LGPD apply, we process limited personal data on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site, and, where required, on your consent (for example for advertising and analytics cookies). Subject to the law, you have the right to request access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction or objection to processing, portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority. To exercise your rights, contact hello@filetools.you. Because we do not keep accounts or file contents, in most cases there is little or no personal data in our own hands; data processed by Google or Cloudflare is governed by their policies.

10. International transfers and retention

Our providers operate globally, so information may be processed in countries other than yours, under the safeguards those providers describe. We do not keep your files. Analytics and advertising data are retained according to the settings and policies of the respective providers.

11. Children

FileTools is a general-audience site and is not directed to children under 13 (or the higher age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

12. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Because files are processed locally, they are never exposed to our servers. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.

14. Contact

Questions or requests about privacy: hello@filetools.you or our Contact page.
